Preparing Your Space

for a Tactile Artworks Presentation

This guide is designed to help you prepare the ideal space for your upcoming tactile art presentation. The physical setup of the room is crucial for ensuring every participant has a memorable, hands-on experience.

Small Groups (under 18 participants)

Larger Groups (18-36 participants)

Recommended Table & Chair Arrangements

The best setup allows our artist, Linda, to be within arm's reach of each participant, providing personalized guidance and attention. For groups less than 18 people, we recommend the following configurations:

Blue rectangles representing tables set in a u-shape with chairs around the outside. Icons in the center of the u-shape representing a rolling chair and guide dog.

U SHAPE

Orange tables angled around to make a c-shape configuration. Chairs around the outside of the "C" and icons representing a rolling chair and guide dog in the center of the c-shape.

C SHAPE

Yellow rectangles representing tables setup in a L-shape with chairs around the outside. Icons on the opposite side of the tables from the other chairs showing where a rolling chair and guide dog will be.

L SHAPE

Pink rectangles representing tables set in a v-shape. Chairs on the outside of the "V" for attendees and a rolling chair and guide dog will be on the opposite side than the attendees.

V SHAPE

A round table with 8 chairs for attendees and one rolling chair for the presenter.

ROUND

Four yellow tables set together to form a large rectangle. Six chairs on each long side of the table, including one rolling chair for the presenter.

CONFERENCE

Rectangular tables arranged in a hollow square (rectangle open in the middle) with chairs around the outside at one end.

HOLLOW SQUARE

“Losing one’s vision is frightening and incredibly unsettling as there is no way to touch and feel the loss. It is an ambiguous sense or feeling of loss. By working with Linda’s tactual presentations one can feel and integrate in a new way of one’s vision loss.”

— Kate Grathwold, Ph.D., President/CEO at Vision Loss Resources, Little Canada, MN

“Linda Brant-Malm is a true original. Drawing on her own life and experiences, she's created a unique and empathetic set of programs where difficult topics are explored with care, humanity and an engaging sense of humor. Linda’s work prompts you to think about how you perceive the world.”

— Andy Sturdevant, Writer, Artist and Arts Administrator

Book A Presentation

For larger groups, 18 to 36 participants, we suggest dividing them into smaller, rotating sections. Alternatively, a “fishbowl” experience with viewing from concentric circles can accommodate up to three dozen participants. People in the inner circle are seated, while those in the outer circle are standing. For pre-K and elementary-aged groups, sitting on the floor in a circle works well in an open room.

Long tables set in a square with chairs around the outside. At one end one table would be removed for pass through to the middle of the square where a rolling chair should be for the presenter.

SQUARE FISHBOWL

HEXAGON FISHBOWL

Rectangles representing tables set in a hexagon shape with chairs and/or standing people around the outside. A rolling chair for the presenter will be in the center.
Icons representing kids sitting on the floor in a circle. One rolling chair is in the center.
