Preparing Your Space

for a Tactile Artworks Presentation

This guide is designed to help you prepare the ideal space for your upcoming tactile art presentation. The physical setup of the room is crucial for ensuring every participant has a memorable, sensory experience.

Recommended Table & Chair Arrangements

The best setup allows our artist, Linda, to be within arm's reach of each participant, providing personalized guidance and attention. For groups up to 12 people, we recommend the following configurations:

U SHAPE

Orange trapezoid shapes represent tables. They are configured in the shape of a C. Chairs are placed along the outer edge. Icons represent a rolling chair and a guide dog in the crook of the C.

C SHAPE

Yellow rectangles represent tables. They are configured in the shape of an L. Chairs are placed on the outer edges of the tables. Icons representing a rolling chair and a guide dog are in the crook of the L.

L SHAPE

V SHAPE

A blue circle represents a large round table. Chairs are place around the edge of the table. Icons represent a rolling chair and a guide dog.

ROUND

CONFERENCE

Green shapes represent tables. They are configured in a hollow square. Chairs are place on the outside at one end, in the shape of U or a V. Icons representing a rolling chair and a guide dog are in the hollow center.

HOLLOW SQUARE

Blue circles represent small round tables. They are configured in the shape of a flower. Chairs are placed along the outer edge. An icon of a rolling chair is at the center of the flower shape. An icon of a guide dog is off to the side.

FLOWER SHAPE

“Losing one’s vision is frightening and incredibly unsettling as there is no way to touch and feel the loss. It is an ambiguous sense or feeling of loss. By working with Linda’s tactual presentations one can feel and integrate in a new way of one’s vision loss.”

— Kate Grathwold, Ph.D., President/CEO at Vision Loss Resources, Little Canada, MN

“Linda Brant-Malm is a true original. Drawing on her own life and experiences, she's created a unique and empathetic set of programs where difficult topics are explored with care, humanity and an engaging sense of humor. Linda’s work prompts you to think about how you perceive the world.”

— Andy Sturdevant, Writer, Artist and Arts Administrator

For larger groups of 13 to 24 participants, we suggest dividing them into smaller, rotating sections. Alternatively, a “fishbowl” experience with viewing from concentric circles can accommodate up to two dozen participants. People in the inner circle are seated, while those in the outer circle are standing.

Yellow rectangles represent tables, configured in a hollow square. Square icons represent people seated in chairs, placed around the tables. Round icons represent standing people staggered behind the chairs. A rolling chair is in the center.

SQUARE FISHBOWL

Orange trapezoids represent tables, configured in a hexagon. Square icons represent seated people around the edge of the tables. Round icons represent standing people staggered behind the chairs. A rolling chair is in the center.
